GLOBAL SCENES COLOR “MOMENTS AND MEETINGS” PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT

WHITTIER, CA (April 12, 2006) - “Moments and Meetings: Travel Photography of Charles Eilers” is on display now through May 27, 2006, in the Lobby Gallery of the Bonnie Bell Wardman Library, located on the Whittier College campus. This exhibit is free and open to the public; for more information, exhibition hours, or directions to the library, please call the Wardman Library Office at (562) 907-4247.

Training teachers for Peace Corps in Nigeria and Ethiopia in the 1960s began a continuing quest for Charles Eilers to experience the rich geographic and cultural variety of our global community.

Combined with his subsequent travel through Central and South America as well as South Asia, Eilers has brought his world of experience back home to the U.S. through a collection of story-telling photographs and award-winning images.

In all, Eilers’ extensive travels have taken him to all seven continents and more than 130 countries, circling the globe by bus, boat, and train. He has presented his photographic travelogues, which cover in excess of 30 different countries, to local community groups on several occasions, and his compelling images have appeared in the Los Angeles Times and in four Peace Corps International calendars.

“It is my desire on each trip,” Eilers notes in his artist’s statement, “to record images that will best share the memorable moment of a place or a warm meeting with new people. My hope is that the images reflect a respect for the diversity and creativity within our extended human family.”

The Wardman Library at Whittier College is housed in the Rose Hills Foundation Center for Library and Information Resources.
