BROADOAKS AUCTION WILL “REACH FOR THE STARS”
Whittier, CA (November 5, 2004)—“Reach for the Stars,” the annual auction
fund-raiser for Broadoaks Children’s School at Whittier College, will take place
on Friday, November 19, at 7:00 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel in Uptown Whittier.
This year’s auction features mountain getaways, golf packages, fine art,
children’s gifts, and amusement park packages, among other items; the annual
raffle drawing will include a $1,000 grand prize. Admission is $10.00 per
person, and includes beverages, hors d’oeuvres, and desserts; a no-host bar will

All proceeds from the event support the instructional program in Broadoaks’
preschool through sixth-grade classes. “Broadoaks serves about 300 children from
our community. As a demonstration school and childhood research center,
Broadoaks serves as a learning laboratory for Whittier College students and
professionals committed to children and families,” said Judith T. Wagner,
director of Broadoaks and professor of child development and education.
“Broadoaks parents and the greater Whittier community have made this event a
remarkable success for the past 20 years, and we know that the 2004 auction will
be the best ever.”
Other items available through silent or voice auction include unique gifts,
toys, books, crafts, holiday decorations and services. one-of-a-kind handcrafted
items, autographed baseballs, memorabilia, and more.
Broadoaks is a private, non-profit demonstration school that includes preschool,
day care, and elementary school with before- and after-school care. It is one of
the oldest and most widely respected demonstration schools in the country. Its
purpose is to provide programs for children and their families as a model for
students in education, social work, psychology, medicine and other related
fields. The children at Broadoaks reflect the socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural
diversity of the Whittier community. The school also serves children with a
variety of special needs, including learning disabilities, behavior disorders,
high-risk family situations and other challenges to learning and development.
Founded by Quakers in 1887, Whittier College is an independent, four-year
college offering a traditional liberal arts program integrated with both
professional and pre-professional courses of study. With an emphasis on
diversity, community, and curricular innovation, the College’s primary mission
is to endow students with the education, skills, and values appropriate for
global leadership and service.
Whittier Law School, which is accredited by the American Bar Association and is
a member of the Association of American Law Schools, is located on a separate
campus in Orange County.
