WORLD
PREMIERE OF “BOXES” SET FOR MARCH 9
Whittier, CA (March 4,
2005)—“Boxes,” a new, dark comedy by playwright Jack DeVries, opens March 9 and
runs through March 13 in the Ruth B. Shannon Center for the Performing Arts,
located on the Whittier College campus. Thursday through Saturday performances
begin at 8:00 p.m.; Sunday’s performance begins at 2:00 p.m. Admission is $10.00
general, $8.00 for students and seniors with valid identification. Tickets may
be purchased by calling the Shannon Center Box Office, 562.907.4203.
Written and directed by Whittier Professor of Theater Jack DeVries, the world
premiere of “Boxes” stars Whittier College sophomore Mike Ettel and senior Robin
Kasahara as Sam and Matti, a married couple who have shut themselves inside a
bomb shelter to shield them from the mass hysteria surrounding the terrorist
attacks and aftermath of September 11, 2001. When news comes of a possible
attack via poisoned fruit, Sam and Matti's lives are interrupted by Homeland
Security, forcing them to face the truth, lies, apples, and an oversized coffin.
The Ruth B. Shannon Center is located at the northeast corner of Painter Ave.
and Philadelphia St. on the Whittier College campus.
