The Palmer Society is pleased to announce that we have won President Sharon
Herzberger’s All Society Alumni Participation Challenge. We thank all who
participated in the challenge and worked so hard to make this victory a reality.
The purpose of the challenge, issued by President Herzberger, was to build
competition between Societies encouraging alumni to philanthropically support
the College. All gifts to Whittier College by any society alumni between July 1,
2010 and June 30, 2011 were counted as participation for their society.
An unprecedented total of 47.3% of all Palmer Society Alumnae chose to
participate in this challenge, many electing to designate their gift to The
Palmer Society Alumnae Scholarship. In the process, we not only met the David and
Barbara (’54) Groce $20,000 Scholarship challenge a full 3 years ahead of
schedule, we fully endowed our scholarship for undergraduate Palmer actives-
demonstrating the power of Palmer Pride.
We also congratulate all Whittier College Society Alumni who chose to support
our Poet Campus during the 2010-2011 fiscal year. Participation rates were
amazing. We especially honor the Ionian Society, the 2nd place runner up,
with 45.3%, and leader for much of the challenge. Their competitiveness
inspired us and many other societies to succeed beyond our imaginations. The
Palmer Society looks forward our next PI (Palmer-Ionian) stag- perhaps before
3/14/2012, as leaders in the Poet community.
The Palmer Society Actives will now receive $1,000 for their treasury and as
a society, we will have the privilege of hosting our 90th Anniversary Brunch at
Wardman House, President Herzberger’s home on October 21, 2011 during Whittier
Weekend. We encourage all our Palmer Society Sisters to come to Whittier Weekend
this year to celebrate this victory and our Sisterhood. Details regarding
homecoming are forthcoming in the next month. We have a very special weekend
planned.
