Ever wish you could throw messages back and
forth to keep up with your Palmer sisters or plan an off the cuff outing that
you know would be more fun with a group of terrific gals? Do you have something
that you want to share with our larger sisterhood community? Do you need help
with something? Or do you just want to post the message yourself rather than go
through the Palmer web page?
The Palmer Society has two ways that alumnae
can do this: 1) The Poet Online Community- Palmer Society Group and 2) Palmer
Alumnae Yahoo Group. Here is a description of each.
Poet Online Community
The Whittier College “Poet Online Community,” has many great
features for W.C. alumni. This secured website allows users to look up
classmates, submit class notes, get news, and join in on discussion
boards. The resource will be helpful for Palmers also because it will help
maintain accurate mail and e-mail information. We encourage all our
sisters to not only register, but to also explore all of the site’s
excellent features.
Registering for this free password-protected Whittier College alumni
site and updating your profile is easy. Alumni can get started by getting
their personalized 8 digit ID number from the Alumni Office at alumni@whittier.edu
or by calling (562) 907-4222.
Once you have your ID code, this is the step-by-step process to get
started:
1. Go to
http://www.poetalumni.net
2. Type in your
last name
3. Find your name
listed
4. Insert your “8
digit ID code” that you received from the Alumni Office
5. Update your
profile information
Optional– You can change your password
at this point so that in the future you can take advantage of all the Poet
Online Community has to offer. This includes participating in Groups
that you have registered affiliations with from your college days. The
Palmer Society does have its own private group.
For any sisters who do not have computer access to update your contact
information through the internet, we encourage you to call the Alumni
Office at (562) 907-4222 and let them double check your profile.
Palmer Alumnae Yahoo Group
The Palmer Actives keep themselves organized
both formally and informally using Palmer Yahoo Groups rather successfully and
so Palmer Alumnae have started a group of their own to help
members who want to keep in touch via the internet. Our online is hosted through Yahoo groups.
-
For those unfamiliar with these forum, these
are free, invitation only groups and participation is by your voluntary active
sign-up; you will not be a member of the Palmer Alumnae Online Group unless you
actively sign-up and and this will be only for Palmer alumnae to join.
-
You may remain as anonymous as you like and
can chose to receive messages that are posted as they come in, on a once-a-day
basis, or just whenever you sign-in and want to read whatever is posted. There
is also a "special notice" option which means you will only receive e-mails
pertaining to Palmer Society announcements in your inbox in case you wish to
stay out of the chatter but want to remain in the loop.
-
Only when you post or reply to a message is
your e-mail address given and you may reply to the person who posted the message
or to everyone on the forum. Similarly, you may post to a specific member of our
forum or the entire forum also when you have something to say.
-
There are moderators in keeping with our
spirit of friendship and cooperation but beyond that, anything goes.
-
If you think you are interested in joining
such a community let us know at
thepalmersociety@yahoo.com.
You will need to respond to the message and sign up for a Yahoo account in order
to complete the process of signing up.
