Spring 2009

Community service projects were plentiful this Spring. Palmer Spring President, Nadine Barragan also served as the president of Circle K and so the Actives had many activities to choose from. Projects varied from reading to kids and serving breakfast to seniors to the Shelter's Right Hand 5k Fitness Walk– stepping out against domestic violence. Fall should be equally busy with service.

May 1– Health and Safety Fair
Circle K and The Palmer Society attended the Health and Safety Fair in Burbank. Volunteers helped at varies booths giving out information about health and safety. There was entertainment, activities and demonstrations for kids.

April 4– Easter Egg Hunt
Palmer members helped at the City of Whittier Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Parnell Park

April 25– Shelter's Right Hand 5k Fitness Walk
Shelter's Right Hand 5k Fitness Walk towards stepping out against domestic violence.  Many members of the Palmer Society joined the Whittier Community in showing their beliefs against domestic violence.

Immanuel Presbyterian Church – March 25-April 2
It was an alternative way to spend spring break by doing various community service events.  Palmers volunteered at a food kitchen serving the hungry and needy families in L.A., helped out at the Immanuel Presbyterian Church, and leaded programs at Hoover Elementary School

March 14– Reading to Kids
The Palmer Society joined Circle K to assist with "Reading to Kids" at Esperanza Elementary School in Los Angeles. Volunteers read to and interacted with kids so that they could practice their English.

March 7– Kickball Carnival & Barbeque
Palmers helped out Psi Chi and Whittier College when they hosted a Kickball Carnival & BBQ with games, booths, food for mentally disabled elders. There were many activities to choose from such as making frames or tie-dye shirts, as well as plenty of games to play.

March 14– St. Patrick’s Senior Pancake Breakfast
The Palmer Society volunteered making and serving pancakes at the Whittier Senior Center.

Fall 2008

Palmer Society members participate in many individual service activities as members of Intersociety Council. In addition to our actives ongoing service efforts, the Palmer Actives also sponsor and take lead on service activities as a society.

bullet The Palmer Society sponsored a child in Mexico. Shoe boxes were filled up with goodies from notebooks and pencils to socks and picture frames. Each member sponsored a child, boy or girl between the ages of 4 and 12 years old.
 

bullet The Palmer Society as well as the Hispanic Student Association, and Circle K hosted a clothing drive to benefit the victims of the recent Orange County fires. Some of the victims lost everything and we wanted to help them out by providing them with some essentials. All the items were donated to the Salvation Army.

Come get them while they’re hot! Palmers held make and service pancakes. It was to promoted by Red Ribbon Pancake Breakfast.
 
bullet October 31– Halloween Spooktacular held at the Whittier Community Park. Some
Palmers helped in the booths and other volunteered serving food.
bullet November 8th Helping Hands Day- Palmers volunteered by Reading to kids.
 
bullet November 22– Helping Hands for the City of La Mirada. Palmers helped garden and plant new trees and flowers.
 
bullet Palmer members also go to the soup kitchen Tuesdays and Fridays from 3:00-4:00pm @ St. Mathias in Whittier.
