The Palmer Society requires prospective members to attend at least one event for potential members the semester before pledging.  This includes but is not limited to Open House, Rush, a girls night out like "Spa Night", 3 Palmer Day Lunches, or any event open to the general Whittier College Campus that is hosted by the Palmer Society. Events geared towards recruiting give our guests the special opportunity to ask questions about what the benefits Palmer membership hold for our sisters, what activities our group participates in, and what commitments are required for individual members. It also helps both potential members and our Palmer sisters to get to know each other better and helps a prospective member to get a better idea of whether Palmer Society life is a good choice for her. We feel that when one attends many events, the most well informed decision can be made by all concerned. Individuals unable to attend events should approach the President or Pledge Mistress to discuss additional opportunities and eligibility to join the Palmer Society with careful consideration to time commitments given.

In order to become a member of the Palmer Society you must be a registered female undergraduate student at Whittier College.  Students must be registered for at least one semester prior joining and have a 2.0 G.P.A. for the term previous to becoming a member as well as a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.0.  The Palmer Society require a one year active commitment once a student becomes a member and a 2.2 GPA must be achieved one semester after becoming a member .

If you meet these requirements, you can join the Palmer Society by participating in New Member Education (a.k.a. "pledging") during the January Interim period.  You indicate that you wish to participate in New Member Education by going through bid process.

The Bid Process

Prior to Bids and New Member Education...

There are several opportunities during the Fall Semester to meet the Active Members of the Societies.  Students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of each of these events to get to know more about the Societies they are considering joining.  These events include the Student Activities Fair held during Fall Orientation, as well as each Society's Open House and Rush, also held during the Fall Semester.  Rush Booklets are available during the fall semester to help you through the process but finding out about these activities is as easy as approaching any Society member.  Finally, anytime you are interested in finding out more about Society Life, please approach a Member of ANY Society to find out more AT ANY TIME OF YEAR.  They will be happy to discuss this great Whittier College tradition!
