The Palmer Society Alumnae are pleased to announce that we
have awarded our Palmer Society Alumnae Endowed Scholarship on February
4, 2012 at the Society's Annual Alumnae-Active Candidate Mixer. The Winter 2012
scholarship award winner is Samantha Quintanar '13. The Palmer Society Alumnae
Leadership Council was very excited to share this news in the presence of so
many of our active and alumnae sisters and among our candidate members who are
progressing through the New Member Education Program.
The scholarship panel was impressed by Ms. Quintanar's
initiative in applying for this year’s award, even as a member who recently
joined our Society in Spring 2011. In this time, Samanatha has demonstrated a
willingness to share her talents with our society in ways that are supportive of
our success as an organization, both through her participation and her
leadership.
Ms. Quintanar is from Santa Fe Springs, California and is majoring in English
and Theater.
We hope that this prize will aid in Ms. Quintanar's studies at Whittier College
while maintaining her active status as a member of the Palmer Society. We are
proud of Samantha as our sister and as this year’s award recipient and we wish
her all the best in her future.
The Palmer Society Alumnae Endowed Scholarship is a merit based award
given to a currently active Palmer Society member in good standing who models
the values of the Palmer Society as stated in our Mission and Values Statement.
This new scholarship was established in 2009 and is the inspiration of Palmer
Sister and Whittier College Trustee, Barbara (Ondrasik) Groce ‘57. The first
awards were made in Spring 2011. With the help of a $20,000 match challenge
provided by David and Barbara Groce, the Palmer Society Alumnae were able to
achieve full endowment of the scholarship fund in October 2011 at our 90th
Anniversary Celebration, three years ahead of schedule. The Palmer Society
Alumnae Endowed Scholarship looks forward to providing support to our active
members for many years to come thanks to the support of many people, including
our alumnae sisters and the Palmer Alumnae Leadership Council.
