Leadership Opportunities
The Office of Student Activities emphasizes the development of leadership skills in all Whittier students. It is our belief that every student holds the potential and promise for leadership, both at the College and in the community. For more information on the programs, please contact OSA.
POET Leadership,
(Providing Opportunities for Excellence Through Leadership) is a series of workshops designed to offer students the leadership experience critical to their success at Whittier College and beyond. Sessions focus on broad leadership topics touching on ethics, various leadership models, understanding one’s own leadership potential and teambuilding skills. Additionally, participants are encouraged to form new networks with peers and the various professors, administrators, student leaders and alumni who facilitate the workshops.
The Pizza Series
is a lunch series for members of clubs and organizations to gain practical knowledge about issues concerning their success as campus leaders and the progress of their organization. These noon-time workshops feature pizza, sodas and food for the mind. Topics in the past have included budgeting, fundraising and running for office.
First Class
is an intensive four-week leadership seminar during the January Interim for first-year students. The sessions are designed to offer new students the leadership experience necessary to assist in their transition to college and to provide them with the skills which will contribute to their success as leaders at Whittier College and beyond. Participants are encouraged to make connections with fellow students, student leaders, and the various professors and administrators who facilitate the sessions.
Fall Leadership Conference.
Build skills and develop your own personal leadership vision at this year's fall leadership conference. Through sessions and workshops, participants will explore issues that are essential to leadership, such as working with clubs and organizations, event and program planning, ethical leadership, and much more! All students are invited to attend this unique opportunity.
