Can I stay on campus during the vacation periods?

During Thanksgiving Break, all halls will remain open. During Winter Break and Spring Break all halls except Wanberg and Wardman will be closed and you will need to make arrangements to stay at home or elsewhere. In extreme cases, housing may be provided (space allowed) in Wanberg and Wardman for an additional fee. There is no housing available during the summer.

Is there a curfew or set quiet hours?

While there is no curfew, we do ask that you keep noise levels to a minimum at all times. Noise levels should be low enough so as not to disturb others. Quiet hours are in effect between the hours of 10:00 PM and 8:00 AM Sunday through Thursday, and midnight to 8:00 AM Friday and Saturday. Courtesy hours are in effect seven days a week, 24-hours a day.

Can I smoke in the residence halls?

No, all of the halls are smoke free. You may smoke outside of the building if you are at least 50 feet away.

What kinds of special interest housing is available?

Each of our residence halls is a little different, and our goal is place you in a hall that meets your needs. While the majority of our halls are co-ed by floor, Wanberg Hall is all female. Ball Hall, Harris C and D, and a portion of Wanberg Hall are designated "substance free." These halls are designed for students who have an interest in adopting a substance-free lifestyle. Residents in these halls make a commitment to their floormates that they and their guests will refrain from the use of tobacco, alcohol and illegal drugs while on the floor.

Are the residence halls safe?

The exterior doors of all residence halls are locked 24-hours a day and access is limited to only those students that reside in the building. Additionally, Campus Safety is dedicated to ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for residents to enjoy and call home. Officers patrol the residence halls on a regular basis and are easily accessible should an emergency arise.

Living in a residence hall seems very safe; therefore, students have a tendency to leave their rooms unlocked and valuables unattended. In reality, the number on crime in college residence halls is petty theft. Crime is a direct result of opportunity. Remember to always lock your room door and carry your keys with you.

Which halls are handicapped accessible?

Turner Hall is equipped with an elevator and is completely handicapped accessible.

Do the halls have game rooms?

Each residence hall has a lounge which houses a variety of recreational equipment such as pool tables, foosball tables, ping pong, air hockey, cards, board games and television. Most halls also have a VCR or DVD player for you to check out.

Which halls have computer rooms?

Stauffer and Turner Halls are both equipped with on-site computer centers. There are also computers available for your use in the Computer Center (located in the Science Center), Learning Support Services (located in Philadelphia House) and the Library.

What are the dining facilities?

The Cafe @ the Campus Inn, the college's primary dining facility, is located on the second floor of the Student Union. It features a variety of entrees, a full salad bar, deli, full beverage bar and desserts ranging from fresh pies to premium ice cream. Once inside the Cafe @ the Campus Inn you are entitled to unlimited servings; however, you are asked to consume all food in the dining hall. Sack pack meals are available if you cannot attend meals because you have class, work, etc.

The Spot, located on the first floor of the Student Union, is an on-campus restaurant open from dawn to well past dusk. The Spot features such goodies as homemade pizza, char-broiled hamburgers, hot grill selections and a coffee bar.

Do I have to be on the meal plan?

Yes, resident students are required to select from one of the meal plan options.

Is there cable for my TV?

Yes, every residence hall room has a cable hook-up for your TV. Cable can be ordered when you arrive by contacting Charter Communications at 1 (800) 681-9997

How can I set up a bank account in Whittier?

There are several banks within walking distance of the campus, including Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Washington Mutual, and Quaker Savings and Loan. The College is also affiliated with Southern California Credit Union, which has an ATM on campus for banking transactions. On Saturday of Orientation, several banks will have representatives on hand to open accounts for new students.
