Dear Student,
As a part of our comprehensive alcohol prevention
program, Whittier requires all first-year students to
complete AlcoholEdu – an online, science-based course
that is taken by tens of thousands of college students
each year. The course provides a detailed education
about alcohol and its effects on the body and mind.
Whether you drink or not, AlcoholEdu will empower you to
make well-informed decisions about alcohol and help you
better cope with the drinking behavior of your peers.
As you proceed through the five chapters of AlcoholEdu,
you will be presented with content in a variety of
formats, including slides, audio/video clips, quiz
questions, interactive exercises and journaling
activities. In addition, you will take a comprehensive
final exam – you must receive a grade of 80% or higher
by FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 2006 to pass and receive credit
for taking AlcoholEdu. Failure to complete the course by
the aforementioned date will result in a referral to the
Dean of Student’s Office for disciplinary action.
AlcoholEdu also includes pre- and post-assessments at
the start of the course and immediately following the
final exam. The Course Conclusion, which is the last
portion of AlcoholEdu, will be emailed to you
approximately one month after you complete the final
exam. Once you have finished the Course Conclusion, you
will have completed your AlcoholEdu requirement. Please
print out a copy of your final exam score sheet as
verification of your completion of the course.
The course takes approximately 2 ½ hours to complete.
You may log in and out of the course as you wish, and we
do recommend that you complete the course in more than
one sitting.
Please note that the course includes three surveys that
measure students’ alcohol-related attitudes and
behaviors. All survey responses are strictly
confidential; the College will only receive information
about the student body as whole and will never see your
individual answers. You can feel confident that
providing truthful answers – no matter what they are –
will not put you at any risk for repercussions.
