Periodical subscriptions offer important support
to the College's academic mission. Each academic
department selects subscriptions which enhance
and strengthen the curriculum. The Serials
Department acquires, processes, and organizes
these publications. Their formats vary, and may
include daily and weekly newspapers, academic
journals, popular magazines, electronic journals
(e-journals), and microforms (microfilm or
microfiche). Reference assistance, for both
print and electronic resources, is a very
important component of our services.
Whittier College subscribes to 626 print
subscriptions. On-line journals and electronic
database services, which included InfoTrac,
Project Muse, and JSTOR, add nearly 2,800
additional fulltext titles. The periodicals are
arranged alphabetically by title.
Serials Locations:
Current Periodicals (Main Floor): All current
year publications are shelved here.
Reserve Periodicals (Circulation Desk): Popular
titles, including Time, Newsweek, and Sports
Illustrated
Bound Periodicals (Top Floor): All journal
issues prior to the current year
Indexes and Abstracts (Top Floor): Print
indexes, and abstracts are arranged
alphabetically, and are located on the southeast
side of the Top Floor
• Periodicals must be used in the Library only.
• WALDO lists our periodical holdings and
displays the current status of each
subscription; the Serials Title List and Subject
List (in paper format) also provide up-to-date
periodical information.
