INTERLIBRARY LOAN
and LINK+
LINK+
LINK+ is a patron-initiated service available to
Whittier College students, faculty, and staff.
It allows patrons to submit online requests for
books, not available at Wardman Library. The
materials are delivered by courier to the
library for checkout. This service is not
available to Courtesy Card holders. Access LINK+
from the Library Catalog page or
to get started.
What’s available using LINK+?
Items listed as “Available” in LINK+ are
available for borrowing. Generally, this means
books.
How long does a LINK+ request take?
The time between making a request for an
available item and picking up the item is
approximately 3-5 days. Items will be held for
pick up for 10 days.
How am I notified and where do I pick up my
LINK+ requests?
You will be notified by email when your items
arrive. They can be picked up at the Circulation
Desk. You will need your ID card for checkout.
If materials are not picked up within ten days
they will be automatically sent back.
How long can LINK+ items be kept?
The loan period is 21 days with one renewal of
an additional 14 days. Items can be renewed from
3 days before the due date.
How many LINK+ requests can be made at a
time?
Patrons may request an unlimited number of
LINK+ transactions. This includes pending
requests, received books, and returned books
still in transit.
What are LINK+ fines and replacement costs?
The overdue fine for items returned after the
due date is $1.00 per day per item. Replacement
costs for lost or damaged LINK+ books is
$115.00.
How do I check the
status of a LINK+ request?
Borrowers may monitor the status of LINK+
requests in the
MY LIBRARY ACCOUNT option in the library catalog. LINK+ requests
are listed under holds. When the status is
listed as <Received> the item is ready for
pickup. A LINK+ request can also be cancelled
but only if the item still has a “Requested”
status. If the item is “In transit” or
“Received,” the request may not be cancelled.
INTERLIBRARY LOAN (ILL)
You may use the library’s Interlibrary Loan
service to request Journal articles or books
that are not available via LINK+. This service
is available to all currently enrolled students,
faculty, and staff at Whittier College. Courtesy
Card holders are not eligible for this service.
Access the Interlibrary Loan form from the
Library Catalog page or
to get started.
How do I make requests?
For books first make sure that the item is not
available via LINK+
For Journal articles you should check the
library’s
A-Z listing first
to make sure the library does not have access to
a journal. You are now ready to proceed to the
Interlibrary Loan request form.
Make sure you fill in all the fields (author,
title, volume, issue, page range etc.)
How much will it cost?
Usually your request can be filled for free.
Occasionally a library will want to charge for
providing an article. If this happens you will
be contacted by a librarian who will ask if you
are willing to pay a fee to receive your item.
How long before I will receive the requested
items?
Your article request may take anywhere from 3 or
4 days to a week or more depending on the
lending library. Books are sent through the
mail or by UPS and can take up to 2 weeks or
more to arrive.
How am I notified and
where do I pick up my ILL requests?
You will be notified by email when your item(s)
arrive. They can be picked up at the Circulation
desk. You will need your ID card for checkout.
What is the loan period and may I renew
items?
Journal articles will arrive as copies and do
not need to be returned. For Books, each library
has their own policy so due dates will vary, as
well as the possibility of renewal. You must
contact the library 5 days prior to the due date
to request a renewal.
What is the overdue fee?
You will be charged $1.00 per day for each
overdue ILL item. If an ILL item is overdue and
you pay at the time the item is returned, the
fine will be cut in half. There is no reduction
in fines for overdue Interlibrary Loan books.
May I request materials that Wardman Library
owns?
You will not be able to request any book that is
available at Wardman Library. If a book is
Checked out, “Missing” or “Lost”, please try
LINK+.
We will also request articles from periodicals
we own if the particular issue is “At bindery”
or “Missing.”
