The
library has:

Student Computer Bank with 24 PCs for database
searching, web browsing, and word processing.

These computers are
loaded with softwares such as Microsoft
Office 2007, Adobe Acrobat 7, Internet
Explorer 7, Firefox 3.0, Itunes and
Quicktimes, SPSS 16, Picasa 2, Google Earth,
Symantec Antivirus, RealPlayer 11, etc.

Student Super Station located across from the
Reference desk includes:
o 1 Mac
and 1 PC both loaded
with extra software including the full Adobe
Creative Suite 3 (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash
professional, Illustrator and more)
o An Epson 2500 scanner –
turn your paper documents into PDF’s and your
photos into JPEGs, TIFFs & GIFs
o The Scanpro Microfilm/Fiche
digital scanner – for viewing and scanning
microfilm and fiche
o The Cone of Silence –
attached to the Mac for the ideal listening
experience without having to worry about
bothering other patrons

Mac under the stairs - A multi-media workstation
loaded with extra software including the full
Adobe Creative Suite 3 (Photoshop, Dreamweaver,
Flash professional, Illustrator and more), Final
Cut Studio 2 and equipped with a Cone of
Silence.

PRINTING/COPYING/SCANNING
The library has:
·
Rosenkrantz and Guildenstern – 2 All in One
machines for printing copying and
scanning
·
Earnie – A LaserJet B & W printer which is
especially fast for printing PDF documents
Where are
they located?
·
Rosenkrantz – as you approach the Student
Computer Bank it is on your left
·
Earnie - as you approach the Student Computer
Bank it is on your right
·
Guildenstern – across from the circulation desk
How does it
work?
·
PRINTING:
o All computers will print to all
3 printers : Rosenkrantz, Earnie or Guildenstern
o Students, Faculty and Staff are
given $30 per semester in their printing
account. Each time you print you are prompted to
enter your MyWhittier username and password and
your charges are automatically deducted from
your account. B&W prints are .10/page; COLOR
prints are .25/page. (Save paper and money by
choosing to print double sided)
o Want to print in color? Choose
the printer named Guildenstern. In printer
Properties pick the Quality Tab and then choose
Color.
o Want to print from your PC
laptop? This will involve having a small piece
of software downloaded onto your computer. Ask
at the Circulation desk if you are interested.

COPYING:
o Both Rosenkrantz and
Guildentstern can be used as walk up copiers.
o You will need to swipe your
Whittier ID in order to access your account.
Charges are automatically deducted from your
account every time you copy. B&W prints are
.10/page; COLOR prints are .25/page.

SCANNING:
o Both Rosenkrantz and
Guildentstern can be used for Scanning. You can
scan documents or photos and have them emailed
to any email account.
o The Student Super Station has
an Epson 2500 digital scanner. Files are scanned
directly to the PC. Using this scanner will give
you more control over the finished project. For
Example: you can scan photos and then edit them
directly with Photoshop. If you need to
manipulate the file after you have scanned it,
you should use this scanner PC combination.

MICROFILM SCANNER
Located at the Student Super
Station (across from the Reference Desk) is the
Scanpro Microfilm/Fiche digital scanner.
Microfilm cabinets containing the
New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Whittier
Daily News, Quaker Campus, some journals,
Government documents on microfilm or fiche, and
other specialized items, are located behind the
stairwell on the main floor.
ALUMNI
Alumni can obtain a username and
password at IT services, located on the ground
floor of the Library building, which will allow
them to use any of the computers in the library.
Using this same username and password also
allows for the printing privilege described
above and laptop wireless internet access.
(additional software need to be installed for
wireless internet access)
COMMUNITY USERS
There are 8 computers available
on the first floor for general use. There is a
copy machine located on the southeast corner of
the first floor of the library, Black and White
copy is .10 per page, cash only.
