What is an internship?

  • Internships are partnerships between Whittier College, a student, and an internship site – business, industry, government agency or community non-profit organization.

  • Internships offer students opportunities to gain pre-professional level experience related to the student’s major or occupational goals.

  • Internships are supervised work-learning experiences that combine with reflective, academic study.

  • Internship are usually about twelve weeks in length and can be part-time (during the academic year) or full-time (summers).

  • Internships with for-profit companies should be paid or the company needs to carefully determine if unpaid positions can qualify under Federal and California labor code
