INFORMATION
FOR COMMERCIAL USERS

The Fairchild Aerial Photography Collection at Whittier College is a unique resource for understanding geology and historical land use. Some of the photographs date back to 1927, providing pre-development records of many areas that are now heavily urbanized. Subtle fault traces, prehistoric landslides, and evidence for flood plain boundaries are often obscured by subsequent development. Fairchild Collection photographs are often the best, and sometimes the only, record of the pre-urbanization landscape. Potential uses include engineering surveys, studies of active geomorphic processes, delineation of fault zones, and identification of numerous landforms.
