Chem 85:  Understanding your Chemical World
Introduction:

 

Chemicals.......Toxins.......Pollution.......

Chemistry has a bad reputation for harming the earth in which we live.  If it were not for chemicals, however, there would be no earth.  

Chemistry is a good thing!

In this course, we will investigate how chemistry impacts our lives.  In doing so, we will learn how to

Goals for the Course:
  • Learn about the fundamentals of chemistry
  • Develop logical problem solving skills
  • Understand and use the scientific method
  • Develop the mathematic, computational and laboratory skills necessary to understand and present scientific materials to others
  • Develop the ability to discern the validity of media reports with respect to chemistry's impacts upon society
  • Fulfill the educational goals of Whittier College's Introductory Laboratory Science general education program
