A DAY IN THE COUNTRY
A Day in the Country. Poems by Willis Barnstone. Published by Harper & Row Publishers in 1971.

Pictures by Howard Knotts.

I woke in
a blue pool

the sun was a yellow ship
on a sea of black-eyed Susans.
we went to the secret meadow

in the black airy
night I saw the
sky scratched with
a million crayons.

I wait
for morning light
and orange juice

This is a day to remember. This is a journey from morning to night in the wide open air--a child caught by beauty, in love with life.

The ecstasy of this lovely day is expressed in Mr. Barnstone's poetic images and captured by Mr. Knotts' delicately apt black and white illustrations.
