Perine '08 Named Second Team All-American
Karley Perine '08 earned second team All-American honors in
NCAA Division III for her play during the 2007 season. It
is the fourth straight year Whittier College has had an athlete
on a women's water polo All-American team; Kim Charlson was a
three-time All-American for the Poets in 2004-2006.

Water Polo Finishes Fifth at SCIAC Championships
Perine ’08 Falls One Goal Short of Single Season Record
Karley Perine ’08 scored twelve goals as Whittier College
went 2-1 and finished in fifth place at the SCIAC Championships
hosted by the University of Redlands on April 27-29. The
fifth-seeded seeded Poets (12-16, 5-5) lost their first round
game 17-10 to #4 seed California Lutheran University on April
27. The next day, Whittier beat #8 seed Caltech 16-5 and on the
final day, finished the tournament with a 10-7 victory over #6
seed Occidental College.

Water Polo Falls in Final Home Game
Poets #5 Seed in SCIAC Championships
Catherine Gouge '08 scored two goals and had 5.5 steals, but
Whittier College lost 11-6 to the University of Redlands in the
final home game of the season on April 21. The loss makes
the Poets (10-15, 3-4)
a fifth seed in the upcoming SCIAC Championships.

Water Polo Cruises Past Caltech
Sandoval '08 Breaks Season Steals Record
Nicole Sandoval '08 was credited with 12.5 steals as
Whittier College won 19-4 against the California Institute of
Technology in Pasadena, Calif. on April 18. The
Poets are now 10-14 overall and 3-3 in conference play.

Poets Fall to Sixth in Conference
Ashley Papenbrock '08 scored two gaols and assisted
on five others, but Whittier College lost 11-10 to SCIAC rival
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges at Slade Aquatics Center on
April 14. The Poets (9-13, 2-3) have lost three straight,
all in conference play, and fall to sixth in the SCIAC
standings.

Hedgpeth Named New Women's Water Polo Coach
Allison
Hedgpeth has been named the head coach of the Whittier College
women’s water polo team beginning for the 2007-08 academic
year. She has spent the 2006-07 season as the assistant coach
of the water polo and swimming programs.

(9-12, 2-1 SCIAC) this season.

Galvin '08 Finishes with Hat Trick
Caroline Galvin '08 scored three goals and assisted
on three others to lead Whittier College to a 12-8 win over the
University of La Verne to open Southern California
intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on March 24. The
Poets are now 8-11 overall and 1-0 in the SCIAC.

Water Polo Wins One of Four at Claremont Tourney
Galvin '08 Leads Poets in Scoring for the Weekend
Caroline Galvin '08 scored seven goals in four games, but
Whittier College lost three out of four games at the Claremont
Colleges Tournament on March 17 and 18. The Poets (7-11)
lost 8-7 to California State-East Bay and 10-5 to Colorado State
on day one. Day two started well with an 11-4 victory over
the University of Arizona, but in the final game of the
tournament, the Poets lost 10-9 to George Washington University.

Water Polo Wins Three of Four at Lancer Invite
Perine '08 Leads Poets with 13 Goals
Karley Perine '08 scored 13 goals, including ten on
day two, as Whittier College went 3-1 at the two-day Lancer
Invitational hosted by California Baptist University at Pomona
on March 9 and 10. The Poets (6-8) beat the University of
California-Santa Cruz 10-6 and Iona University 9-8 on day one of
the invitational. On day two, Whittier lost 11-6 to
California State-Monterey Bay, but bounced back in their final
game to beat St. Francis University 9-5.

Water Polo Goes Winless at Slug Fest
Galvin '08 has 14-Goal Weekend
Caroline Galvin '08 scored 14 goals and assisted on five
others, but Whittier College went 0-4 at the two-day Slug Fest
Tournament held at the University of California-Santa Cruz on
March 3 and 4. On day one, the Poets (3-7) lost
10-8 to UC-Santa Cruz and 12-8 to California State-East Bay.
On the second day of competition, Whittier lost 11-10 to
California State-Monterey Bay and 10-9 to Sonoma State.

Water Polo Runners-Up at Chapman Tourney
Perine '08 Scores 16 Goals in Four Games
Karley Perine '08 scored sixteen goals to lead
Whittier College to a second place finish at the two-day Chapman
Tournament in Orange, Calif. on February 24 and 25. The
Poets (3-3) won 10-9 over the University of Arizona and 11-9
over the University of Oregon on day one. They beat Siena
College 10-9 in overtime in the semifinals before losing 9-7 to
Occidental College in the finals on day two.

Water Polo Opens Season at Redlands Tournament
Galvin '08 Scores Five Goals in Two Games
Caroline Galvin '08 scored five goals, but Whittier
College lost a pair of games to open their season at the
University of Redlands Mini-Tournament in Redlands, Calf. on
February 4. The Poets lost 14-9 to Wagner College in game
one and 12-5 to Cal St.-San Bernardino in the second game.
