Poets Name New Men's Water Polo Coach
Justin Pudwill has been named the new head coach of the Whittier
College men's water polo program. He is no stranger to the
Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, having been the
assistant men's and women's water polo coach at Occidental College since

Two Poets Earn All-American Honors
2M player
Jake Zerbe '07 and goalie Matt
Brammer '09 were named to All-American teams this past month.
Zerbe was a first team selection for the second straight year and
Brammer earned his first selection to the second team.

Water Polo Loses First Two in WWPA
Tourney
Poets Enter Tournament #9 Seed
Chris Villanueva '09 scored six goals in the tournament, but
no. 9 seed Whittier College lost their first two games and won the third
in the Western Water Polo Association Tournament on November
17-19. The Poets lost 12-7 to no. 8 UC-Santa Cruz in game one and
10-5 to the no. 5 University of Redlands before bouncing back to beat
the no. 10 University of La Verne 12-10 in the final game of the
tournament.

Three Poets Honored By SCIAC
Three members
of the Men’s Water Polo team earned All Conference Honors at the SCIAC
Men’s Water Polo All-Conference meeting last night. Senior 2M player
Jake Zerbe was named to the First Team All-SCIAC for the 3rd
consecutive year. Senior utility player Cody Pletcher and
sophomore goalie Matt Brammer were both named to the Second Team
All SCIAC.

Water Polo Goes 1-2 in SCIAC Tourney
Poets Qualify for WWPA Championships
Whittier College finished in sixth place at the Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Water Polo Championships hosted by
the University of La Verne on November 10-12. The Poets lost 11-10
in overtime to California Lutheran University
on day one of the tournament, beat the California Institute of
Technology 18-3 on day two, and lost 7-6 to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
Colleges
in their final contest.

three goals to lead Whittier College to a 9-8 victory over
Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
rival, California Lutheran University on November 4.
The Poets (3-16, 4-3 SCIAC) are now in fourth place in the
conference while the Kingsmen (3-13, 3-4 SCIAC) fall to
fifth.

Carty Gets 150th
Career Coaching Win
Five Poets scored three or more
goals as Whittier College beat the California Institute of Technology
20-7 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action
on October 3. The win puts the Poets in third place in the SCIAC
and gives head coach Mitch Carty his 150th career coaching victory.

Zerbe '07 Named WWPA Player of the Week
The Western Water Polo Association has named Jake Zerbe '07 its
Player of the Week. He
led Whittier
to a 1-1 week with a dominating week of play for the Poets. He scored
four goals with four kickouts drawn and an assist against Pomona and
then scored four more against Occidental. He added two kickouts drawn,
two steals and two assists against Occidental. He finished the
week with 8 goals, 6 kickouts, 3 assists and 2 steals. |

Gannon in High Scoring Affair
Whittier College traveled to
California Baptist University for a pair of games on October 11.
The Poets (5-13) won their first match of the day 16-12 over Gannon
University (5-10), but lost to nationally ranked No. 20 California
Baptist (18-7) 13-6 in game two.

Poets finish 1-3
in Tourney
Whittier College played four games
at the Claremont Convergence Tournament on October 6 and 7. The
Poets lost to Bucknell University (11-3) and George Washington
University (11-8) on day one. They lost to Brown University (12-5)
in the morning game on day two, but bounced back to beat Chapman
University (16-3) in the afternoon.

Canner '07 Scores Seven Times in
Tourney
Mark Canner '07 scored seven goals in three games, but the
Whittier College men's water polo team finished without a win at the
University of California-Santa Cruz Slugfest Tournament on September 23
and 24. The Poets lost to SCIAC rival California Lutheran
University 12-7 and nationally ranked #19 UC Santa Cruz 13-8 on day one.
On day two, Whittier lost to Division I Santa Clara University 16-11.

Goals in Tourney
Whittier College men's water polo
went 2-2 at the Inland Empire Classic hosted by the University of
Redlands on September 9 and 10. The Poets lost 17-4 to the
University of California-Santa Barbara in the first match of the
tournament, but bounced back against SCIAC foe Occidental College with a
10-9 win. On day two, the Poets lost to Division I University of
California-San DIego 18-5, but once again picked up a SCIAC win over
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Triton Invitational
Poets finish
13th in Tournament
Whittier College finished 13th in
the 14-team Triton Invitational hosted by the University of
California-San Diego on September 2 and 3. The Poets went 1-3 in
the tournament. On September 2, Whittier lost to Division I
powerhouse Loyola Marymount University (20-3), but beat SCIAC rival,
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (5-3) later that day. On September 3, the
Poets lost to the University of California-Santa Cruz (8-3) and Division
I Air Force (14-6).
