Water Polo Loses First Two in WWPA Tourney
Poets Enter Tournament #9 Seed

Chris Villanueva '09 scored six goals in the tournament, but no. 9 seed Whittier College lost their first two games and won the third in the Western Water Polo Association Tournament on November 17-19.  The Poets lost 12-7 to no. 8 UC-Santa Cruz in game one and 10-5 to the no. 5 University of Redlands before bouncing back to beat the no. 10 University of La Verne 12-10 in the final game of the tournament.


Chris Villanueva '09

Villanueva scored one goal against Santa Cruz, two versus Redlands and had a hat trick and two assists in the win over La Verne.  Cody Platcher '07 scored five times in the tournament.  He tallied three goals in the loss to Santa Cruz and scored twice and added two assists against La Verne.  All-SCIAC performer, Jake Zerbe '07 scored four times in the three games.  He scored two goals against Redlands and La Verne.  he led the team with 49 goals this season.  He also drew four penalties in each of those games.  Zerbe is now the Whittier College all-time leader in drawn penalties.  Matt Brammer '09 made 38 saves in the tournament.
