2007 SCIAC Championships, Hosted by

In head coach Dave Hogan's first season,
the team is coming off a down year, but
things are looking up for 2007 as they expect to make a run in the Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC).
Returning stars are Chris Banda '07 (all conference
in pole vault) competing in jumps, Nick Salomone '07
and Nick Daum '08 specializing in distance races,
Matt Fink '08 in the throws, and Eric Shane
'07 in multi events. Chris Gartrell '08
returns in the sprints and jumps after missing a year due to
injury and he will lead a group of sprinters that include
Matt Calloway '09, Ryan Munez '09, and Matt Gocke '09. Gocke will also leas the team in the
hurdles. Freshman Raphael Rodriguez is coming
off a MVP year on the Cross Country Team this year to give
more depth and talent to the distance crew. |

On the women's
side, the team is growing in numbers and looks to move up in
the SCIAC standings. Shuree Gangloff '09 will
lead the throwers as she had the top team mark in all
throwing events last year. She is the school record
holder and conference champion and national champion
participant in discus and all conference in shot put last
year. Dana Allen '07 (all conference in the
100hurdles last year) will sprint and jump as well.
Allen will lead a whole new group of sprinters coming in
this year. Julia Tyack '08 (all conference
3000 SP her freshman year) returns to anchor the distance
group. Molly Loesche '07 (all conference in
the pole vault her freshman year) returns after missing her
year due to injury. Freshman newcomer Darlene
Partida (MVP of the women's cross country team this
year) will join the distance program, while Laura Guzman
'07, Adrianna Durflinger, and several others provide
depth. Freshman Erin Patterson comes onboard as
a solid addition in the mid-distance. Nicole Warner
'08 will support Gangloff in the throws and her sister
Stephanie Warner '09 will compete in the jumps and
javelin. |

Gangloff '09 Earns All-American Honors
Shuree Gangloff '09 finished in fifth place in the discus to earn
All-American honors at the 2007 Track and Field Championships hosted by
the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on May 23-25.

Track & Field Sends Athletes to Claremont Classic
Gangloff '09 Ranked Fifth in Division III in Discus
Shuree Gangloff '09
shattered her own school record in the discus by over six feet with
a mark of 147' 5" to capture a fourth place finish in the event, as a
number of Whittier College athletes competed at the Claremont Classic on

Track & Field Teams Finish 7th at SCIAC Championships
Twelve Whittier College athletes earned all-conference honors as the
Whittier College men and women each placed seventh at the Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships hosted by
Whittier College on April 28 and 30. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
Colleges won the men's and women's titles. The top six athletes in
each event earn All-SCIAC honors.

Track & Field Participates at Tiny Lister Classic
Seven members of the Whittier College Track and Field teams traveled
to California State University-Los Angeles for the Tiny Lister Classic
on April 20 and 21. The event served the Poets as a tune-up for
the upcoming SCIAC Championships, hosted by Whittier College, on April

Track & Field Women Finish 6th at SCIAC Multi-Duals
Shuree Gangloff '09 took the top spot in the discus with a mark of
132'10" as the Whittier College women's track and field team finished
sixth at the SCIAC Multi-Duals hosted by Pomona-Pitzer on April 14.
The women finished 2-5 at the meet, while the men finished 0-7.

Track & Field Athletes Reach Personal Best Times at Pomona Invite
The Whittier College Track and Field teams took part in the Pomona-Pitzer
Invitational in Claremont, Calif. on
April 7. The event featured some of the best track and field
competitors in the country at both the collegiate and national level.
In the latest NCAA Division III polls, the Whittier College men were
ranked 25th, while the women came in at 29th.

Track & Field Improves Times at Pt. Loma Invite
The Whittier College Track and Field teams participated in the three-day
Point Loma Nazarene University Invitational in Sand Diego, Calif. on
March 24. There were no team scores in the event; it served as an
opportunity for athletes to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
