Men's Basketball Falls to La Verne
Four Poets Score in Double Figures

Marcus Gibson '09 scored a team-high 13 points, but Whittier College lost 67-63 to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival University of La Verne in La Verne, Calf. on January 13.  The Poets have now lost five straight as their record drops to 6-7 overall and 0-2 in the SCIAC.

Donovan White '10 came off the bench to add 12 points for the Poets in 30 minutes of action.  All of his points came on four three-pointers.  Vernon Covington '08 finished with 11 points and Raphael Farlough '08 scored ten points.  The Poets held a 26-20 lead at the half.

La Verne (2-11, 1-1 SCIAC) finished with three players scoring in double figures, including Brendan Hallinan who scored 19 points, including four three-pointers.  The Leopards completed their comeback by shooting 60 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc in the second half.  They out rebounded the Poets 41-29 in the game.

The Poets are in action again on January 17 when the California Institute of Technology comes to Whittier for a SCIAC match-up.  Game time is scheduled for 7:30pm.
