Men's Basketball Downed By Pomona-Pitzer
McLean '09 Scores Career-High 19 Points

Jeff McLean '09 posted a career-high 19 points, but Whittier College lost 79-71 to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match-up at Voelkel Gymnasium on January 20.  The Poets are now 7-8 overall and 1-3 in SCIAC play.

McLean was 6-of-9 from the field and 7-of-10 from the free throw line.  He also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds Tim Fanning '07 also scored 19 points and for the second straight game, hit at least five three-pointers.  He was 5-of-7 from behind the arc.  He made seven from distance in the Poets' win over Caltech on January 17.  Vernon Covington '08 added 17 points and seven rebounds.

The Poets shot 44 percent from the field in the game and faced a 41-34 deficit at halftime.  Pomona (8-5, 2-2 SCIAC) shot nearly 48 percent from the field and made all six free throws they attempted.  They were lead by Adam Chaimowitz who scored 25 points including five three's.

Whittier's next game is at home against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on January 24.  Tip-off for the SCIAC match-up is scheduled for 7:30pm.
