Men's Basketball Snaps Losing Streak
Fanning '07 Drops 27 on Caltech
Tim Fanning '07 hit seven three-pointers and finished with 27
points as Whittier College won 96-41over Caltech in Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at Graham Athletics Center on
January 17. The win ends a five-game losing streak for the
Poets (7-7, 1-2 SCIAC) and is their first win in conference play.
Fanning was 9-for-12 from the field in 24 minutes of play. He
made his first six three-point attempts on his way to a 7-for-9 night
behind the arc. Marcus Gibson '09 added 15 points.
A.J. Manalo '10 and Jeff McLean '09 finished with 13 and 12
points, respectively. Vernon Covington '08 scored 11
points. Jonathan Saucedo '10 filled the stat sheet
with seven points and game-highs with eleven assists and six steals. |

The Poets dominated the action from the tip, and held a 49-13 lead at
halftime. They out rebounded the Beavers 40-29 in the game, with
Paul Swesey '10 pulling down a game-high eight boards.
Whittier had their best shooting performance in six games, shooting over
54 percent from the field and 40 percent from behind the three-point
line.
The Poets have a week off before continuing their SCIAC schedule.
On January 24, conference powerhouse, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps comes to
town for a 7:30pm tip-off. |
