Men's Basketball Loses SCIAC Opener
White '10 Only Poet in Double Figures

Donovan White '10 scored a team-high 14 points, but Whittier College lost 64-49 to California Lutheran University in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener in Thousand Oaks, Calif. on January 10.  The loss puts the Poets' overall record back to .500 (6-6).

White came off the bench to play 22 minutes and went 5-for-10 from the field.  Anthony Taylor '07 led the Poets in rebounding with eight boards.  Whittier shot 34 percent from the field in the game, but shot just 28 percent in the second half.  They trailed the Kingsmen 31-24 at the half.

Cal Lutheran finished with four players scoring in double figures.  They shot just 32 percent from the field in the game, but held an 8-4 advantage in three-point field goals made.  The biggest difference in the game was at the free throw line, where the Kingsmen made 20-of-29 attempts while the Poets were just 7-of-13.

The Poets continue SCIAC play on January 13 when they travel to La Verne for a 7:30 tip-off.
