2007 Men's Lacrosse Overview
Men’s Lacrosse
is under new management this season with the hire of Nate
Watkins, former University of Maryland All-American and
current Major League Lacrosse star. The Poets return a solid
group of players from the 2006 team that finished the year 7-7.
They are led by captains Dave Gerbarg (team-high 22 goals
in ’06), Mike Prickett (team-high 14 assists in ’06) and
Dan Aas who returns after being abroad last season to
anchor the Poet defense. Whittier burst onto the collegiate
lacrosse scene in 2003, making it to the NCAA Tournament
semifinals, the best finish in school history. A year later,
they went back to the tournament and were knocked out in the
second round. Watkins isn’t accepting another 7-7 finish in
2007. “This year our goal is to bring Whittier College lacrosse
back to the NCAA tournament and competing for a National
Championship.” The Poets begin their season on February 10 at
Notre Dame De Namur. |
