Whittier Hires New Men’s Lacrosse Coach
Nate Watkins, former head coach at the University of
Southern California and current Major League Lacrosse star,
has been hired as the head coach of the Whittier College
men’s lacrosse program.
Watkins is originally from Horseheads, N.Y. He is a graduate
of the University of Maryland, where he was a four-year
letter winner and an All-American midfielder his senior
season. He won a gold medal in the World Games in Australia
as a member of the United States Under-19 team. After
graduating, he was drafted by the Rochester Rattlers of
Major League Lacrosse. He now plays for the San Francisco
Dragons.
Watkins began his coaching career at his alma mater, where
he helped guide the Terps to a Final Four appearance. He
then traveled to Whittier and was the defensive coordinator
when the Poets made the NCAA Tournament in 2004. The past
two seasons he was head coach at the University of Southern
California.
