Poets hang tough against #8 Occidental

The Poets were down 20-21 late in the fourth quarter and had the football but were unable to capitalize before falling to Occidental 28-20. On Offense the Poets were led by Anthony Cappelletti and on defense, Alex Devito led the team in tackles. The results can be found here

Poets fall in SCIAC opener to Pomona-Pitzer

The Poets lost a heartbreaker at home to the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens. The Poets leading offensive player was Alex Jones who had 76 yards receiving and a touchdown as well as another 60 yards on the ground. The defense was lead by Mike Lopez who recorded 13 total tackles. The Poets next game is the Homecoming game against Occidental.

Poets win home opener vs. Menlo                                

The Whittier football team ended an eight game losing streak to Menlo College tonight as the Poets beat the Oaks 27-19 at Memorial Stadium. Josh Scurlock had 244 yards passing and added another 130 yards rushing. Jared Izidoro led the defense with a total of 12 tackles.

Poets win season opener                                              

The Whittier football team won its first game of the season in a overtime thriller, 29-26! The Poets are now 1-0 and hope to keep the momentum into next weekends home opener at Memorial Stadium. Game highlights here.

The season begins!                                                        

The Whittier football season begins when the Poets play the Tigers of Colorado College in Colorado on Sept. 10th. Last year the Poets also opened up their season to Colorado College and came out with a 34-22 win.

Poets plan for Colorado trip                                           

The Whittier football team has finalized plans for their game at Colorado College. The team will be staying at the Clarion Hotel in Colorado Springs. Info about the hotel can be found here.

Poet Scrimmage                                                          

The Poets ended their week long camp with a scrimmage on Thursday. There was a small audience on hand to watch. The Poets first game will be on Saturday, Sept. 10th when they travel to Colorado College for their season opener.

Website Updates:                                                           

Coach Carlson's Corner in the Recruiting Central section of the webpage has been updated. The staff has also finalized plans for the Colorado College trip. The hotel address and phone number will soon be posted. Due to travel limitations, we are only allowed to take 55 players to Colorado.

Poets welcome new football coach and football operations manager

The Whittier Football staff has added Andy Felton, former defensive coordinator at Citrus College, to their staff. Coach Felton will be coaching the defensive backs for the Poets as well as being the special teams coordinator. The Poets also added a new football operations manager, David Stein. David will be entering his second year at Whittier College and will help out the Whittier Football staff where he is needed.

Just added is a new video that will give you a 360 degree view from midfield of Memorial Stadium. Check it out and keep checking back as we expect more updates in the upcoming days.

Packers take page out of Poets playbook  

After offseason workouts this past semester, the Poet football players competed in dodgeball games. The Packers took notice of what the Poets did and this past week after a mini-camp practice, the Packers competed in a dodgeball tournament, just like the Poets had. If the two teams were to compete against each other it's hard to say who would win but Poets O-Line Coach, Cory White, said, "I like our chances."  Full story here

New Website Launches                                               

The WC Football website recently went through a major overhaul. New features include desktops, a new video page, updated rosters, a new message board, as well as, a completely new layout and design. We hope you enjoy the new look!

Just out for the 2005 season are a variety of desktops for your computer. Choose from 6 different designs! A link to the desktops can be found up above or here. Just click on the right size desktop for your monitor, then after the page opens, right-mouse click the image and choose "Set as Background" or "Set as Desktop Item."

Offseason Program Ends                                             

The WC Football staff and players met for the final time this offseason. The topics discussed ranged from keeping focused during the summer months to the improvement in weight gains the team had from January to May. Coach Carlson and the the staff is pleased with the team's commitment to improving in 2005.
