BJ Hammer,Head Football Coach
Coach Hammer will be entering his first season as the Head Coach of the Poets this fall. He has spent the last three seasons as the Defensive Coordinator for Whittier and will continue in that role as the Head Coach.
Since 2003 Coach Hammer’s defense has improved from last in the SCIAC in total defense to 3rd in the SCIAC in 2005. The defense tripled its sack total from the previous season and doubled its take-away margin in 2005.
Coach Hammer began his coaching career as the Outside Linebackers coach for Wabash College in 2001-2002 and he was also the assistant strength coach.
In 2002, he was the Linebackers coach for Heidelberg College in Tiffin, OH. Hammer was also the Strength and Conditioning coach for Heidelberg.
He received his BA from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN and he is currently finishing his MA in education at Whittier.
While at Wabash, Coach Hammer was a three year letterman, team captain his senior year, 2x All-Conf performer, 2x All-American, and he capped his playing career at Wabash by being selected to play in the Aztec Bowl in Mexico as part of the USA Division III All-Star Team.
Andy Felton, Offensive Coordinator Coach Felton will enter his second season with the Whittier football team in the fall of 2006. His duties include coordinating the offense and coaching the Poet quarterbacks.
Andy comes to Whittier after serving as defensive coordinator at Citrus College. While at Citrus, Andy helped the team earn a 20-7 record, a conference championship and a bid into the state playoffs. During his tenure at Citrus, Andy had 17 players receive football scholarships to four year universities. He also coached 18 all conference players.
Before going to Citrus, Andy spent 9 years at the high school level beginning with his alma mater, Wilson High, Ayala, Damien, and finally Covina. He was a member of seven playoff teams, with two of them reaching the finals.
Andy earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology from Cal State Fullerton and a a Masters of Science degree from Azusa Pacific University. Andy and his wife, Leslie, reside in Whittier with their two daughters, Bethanne and Cadi.

bhammer@whittier.eduBlair Hammer, Defensive Line Coach Hammer will be entering his third year at Whittier College this fall, coaching the defensive line and as strength coordinator. He joined the Poet staff in the Fall of 2004.
Coach Hammer received his BA from Wabash College and is working towards his Master of Education and teaching credential at Whittier as a Graduate Assistant.
While at Wabash, Coach Hammer was a four year letterman, 3x All North Coast Conference First Team, and was named an All American by d3football.com in 2003. He was the only active player selected to the North Coast Conference "Defensive Team of the Decade" in 2002, and was the Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2003. In 2002, he helped lead Wabash to its first undefeated, untied regular season in 20 years, taking the team to the final game in the North Region in the NCAA Division III play-offs.
In 2003, Coach Hammer's efforts to break the career quarterback sack record held by his brother Coach BJ Hammer was featured in the college football preseason edition of Sports Illustrated. When the 2003 season ended, Coach Hammer was tied with his brother. The 2005 North Coast Conference Football Media Guide featured Coach Hammer in its discussion of the Team of the Decade (1992 - 2002).
Cory White, Offensive Line
Coach White will be entering his third year at Whittier College this upcoming fall coaching the Offensive Line. He joined the Poet Staff in the fall of 2004.
He was born in San Diego, CA where he played football at Mission Bay High School (Class of 96). He took his football skills to San Diego Mesa College where he was a two year letterman and All-Conference (second year at SDMC). He received his AA in Selective Studies before heading up to Northern California to continue his education and football career. Cory was a 2004 graduate of Humboldt State University, where he was a two year letterman while receiving a BA in Social Science Education. During his four years of intercollegiate football he started at OT, OG and Center.
Coach White is currently serving as the Graduate Assistant for the Offensive Line while he works towards a Master of Education and a teaching credential from Whittier College.
