Academics
The coaching staff at Whittier College takes academics very seriously. During
the spring
2005 semester the coaches randomly checked football players at the door prior to
their
class starting. According to Coach Carlson, "missing a class is the same as
missing a
practice or a workout". There were also mandatory study hall sessions for
football players
that had a semester or cumulative GPA of under 2.25. The study hall
sessions were three
times per week and the players were checked in and out of each session by one of
the
coaches. Each session lasted an hour and a half. These are just a couple
examples of
what is done by the coaches to help each player maximize their time at Whittier
College,
both in the classroom and on the football field.
