Loses Two More to Chapman
Coddington '09 Drives in Two of Three Poet Runs

Blake Coddington '09 drove in two runs in two games as the Poets (0-3) were swept in a doubleheader against nationally ranked #3 Chapman University in Orange, Calif. on February 3.  Chapman (3-0) took game one by a score of 9-2 and won 4-1 in the nightcap.

Coddington's RBI in the first game came off a drawn walk with the bases loaded.  Robbie Smith '08 was credited with an RBI the same way in game one.  Blake Luitwieler '08 (0-1) allowed five earned runs on nine hits and struck out eight batters in six innings in the loss.  In relief, Marty Bueno '09 faced three batters and allowed three runs on a walk and two hits and Scot Kakuk '08 pitched two innings and allowed an unearned run and one hit.

The Poets gave up five runs in the first three innings before cutting into the Chapman lead with two runs in the top of the fifth.  The Poets were unable to create anymore offense, however, collecting only three hits and leaving eleven runners on base in the game.  The Panthers added three more in the seventh and one in the eighth to take the 9-2 victory.

Game two was a pitcher's dual, with Justin Armijo '09 going seven strong innings, scattering eight hits and striking out three batters.  Chapman was able to put up four runs on the right-handed pitcher, but three of those came in the third inning.  Coddington drove in the Poets only run on a ground out in the sixth inning.

The Poets take on Greensboro College on February 4 back home at Memorial Baseball Field.  First pitch is scheduled for 1pm.
