Women's Basketball Falls Back to .500
Araw '07 Leads the Poets with 12 Points

Michelle Araw '07 scored a team-high 12 points with four three-pointers, but Whittier College lost 60-55 to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival, University of Redlands in Redlands, Calif. on February 20.  The loss drops the Poets' record to 12-12 overall and 5-8 in conference play.

Christa Rainville '08 finished with ten points and eight rebounds.  Megan Wingo '07 chipped in eleven points.  Michelle Mascoto '07 scored six points and had eight rebounds, eight assists and four steals.

The Poets trailed by as many as 19 in the first half.  They shot just 6-for-19 from the field and 2-for-7 from behind the arc on their way to a 35-17 first half deficit.   In the second half, the Poets improved from the field, connecting on 42 percent of their shots.  Whittier outscored the Bulldogs 38-25 in the second half, but couldn't finish the comeback; they didn't make a field goal in the final 2:37 of the game.  Redlands (15-8, 8-5) capitalized on Poet mistakes, scoring 25 points off of 26 Poet turnovers in the game.

The Poets are at home for their final game of the season.  They take on conference foe, Occidental College on February 22 at 5pm.
