North Park University Wins Poet Classic
Whittier College Finishes in
Second
On day two of the 24th Annual Purple & Gold Poet Classic, North Park
University beat Whittier College 49-41 to take the tournament
championship and UMASS-Boston won 96-50 over Life Pacific College to
finish in third place at Graham Athletics Center on January 3.
The consolation game between UMASS-Boston and Life Pacific was the first
game of the day. The Beacons had five players in double figures,
led by LeKeisha Tucker '08 who scored 16 points. She also
pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and was credited with five
assists. Lydia Coverdale '07 and Alicia Querusio '08
each added 14 points. Caroline Ashe '10 scored 12 points
and Kristen Reske '07 finished with eleven points. Jenn
Widener '09 scored four points and grabbed six rebounds and was
named to the All-tournament team. |

Three Warriors were in double figures, led by All-Tournament selection
Rebekah Brattrud who finished with 14 points and ten
rebounds. Deborah Myers and Hailey Doyle each had
ten points.
In the championship game, tournament Most Valuable Player Laura Mount
'07 scored a game-high 15 points. Anna Miller '07
scored ten points and had four steals. Evie Peterson '08
was named to the All-Tournament team; she scored nine points and pulled
down nine rebounds.
Whittier was led by All-Tournament selections Megan Wingo '07 and
Michelle Mascoto '07 who scored eight and seven points,
respectively. Wingo also grabbed eight rebounds and Mascoto had
six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
The Poets are in action again on January 11 when they open conference
play on the road against California Lutheran University. tip-off
is scheduled for 7:30pm. |
