Summer Camp Programs for Summer 2007

34th ANNUAL SPORTS CAMP
The Whittier College Athletic Department will offer three 2 week morning sessions
of sports activity instruction. College coaches and athletes will instruct in
the two main areas of emphasis: SWIMMING and TENNIS. The recreational activities
rotate among basketball, kickball, track, soccer, softball, wiffleball, etc.
Each 2-week session will culminate with a Swim Meet, Decathlon and Tennis
Tournament with ribbons and certificates awarded.
Daily sessions (Monday-Friday) will run from 8:45am-12:00 noon for boys and
girls 6-12 years of age. Youngsters will be grouped according to age and ability
level.
Here’s a sample of the daily schedule, directed by Rock Carter:

FEES: $135 per session
$10 discount in same family,

Youngsters should provide their own tennis racket, swim suit, towel, shorts

11th ANNUAL ALL DAY CAMP
Play all day! Join your friends for All Day Camp experience directed by Megan
Carter. Beginning its 11th year, the All Day Camp has become one of our most
popular camps for kids and parents alike. Activities include group games, arts,
crafts and swimming.
Morning 8:45 - 12:00 Sports Camp Schedule
Afternoon 12:00 - 1:00 Lunch and quiet activities
Program: 1:30 - 2:00 - Swim lesson
2:00 - 4:30 - Camp activities - small group games arts and crafts, science
projects,
nature walks, etc.
4:30 - 5:15 Free swim
FEES: $300 all day per
2 week session
Includes supervision from 8:45am-5:15pm.
(Youngsters must bring their lunch)
Afternoon Only

SWIM LESSONS
The experienced Aquatics staff will feature small group instruction in
swimming and diving fundamentals for all ability and age levels after Sports
Camp. Three 1/2 hour classes will be held at 12:00, 12:30 and 1:00 with a
minimum age of 3.
FEES: $40 for 2 week session |
TENNIS LESSONS
The Tennis staff will offer a full hour of professional instruction for all
ability and age levels at 8:00am, prior to Sports Camp.

33rd
ANNUAL SUMMER SWIM CLUB
For the 33rd year in a row, we are pleased to make the Slade Aquatic Center
available to the Whittier Community on a swim program membership basis
this summer. The program is limited to 200 family memberships.*
The pool will be under the constant supervision of certified life guards. Pool
regulations will be posted, and we trust that you will assist us in maintaining
the safety and health rules. Parents must be responsible for young children
since the minimum depth of the Pool is 3 1/2 feet. Children under the age of
6 must be accompanied by an adult. Limited locker space is available, but we
must warn that the College is not responsible for the loss of valuables.
If interested in this program, please fill out and return the application to the
Athletic Department with your check made out to Whittier College. A membership
card will be sent to you that must be presented for admittance to the
pool. The family membership will admit only your immediate family with no
provision for any guests (an additional 5 guests will be admitted over the
summer with the punch card.) The name of each family member will be
imprinted on the membership card and be checked off for pool admittance each
day.
*There will be youngsters using the pool during some weeks from camps and
conference groups using other college facilities. Their use of the pool will be
carefully regulated.

(The last 10 minutes of each hour will be reserved for adult lap swimmers)

SPORTS SPECIALTY CAMPS
FEE: $190 per camp
The Whittier
College Athletic Dept. will offer 5 weeks of Specialty Camps this summer, each
directed and staffed by Whittier College head coaches. The day camp format (9:00
am-3:00 pm) allows us to provide a “low cost, high quality” alternative to
expensive overnight camps at a third of their cost.
This
experienced staff of outstanding coaches and their assistants will present a
daily developmental program with an emphasis on teaching of sports fundamentals
as they pertain to basketball, baseball, soccer and volleyball.

BASEBALL-$190
JULY 16 - 20 Boys & Girls 7-12 years old
Mike Rizzo, Head Baseball
Coach at Whittier College, and his staff will direct the 17th
annual baseball camp. Campers are divided into groups by age and skill level.
The emphasis will be placed on developing the fundamental skills of baseball.

direct the 3rd Annual Softball Camp.

JUNE 25 - JUNE 29 and JULY 9 - 13 Boys and Girls 8-16 years old
The 25th
annual Basketball Camp with Head Coach, Rock Carter, will offer 2 sessions of
Basketball Camp, each will be limited in number. Register early! A fine staff
comprised of high school coaches and college players will provide excellent
instruction to prepare you for your upcoming season. Each basketball player will
receive a T-shirt and a regulation camp basketball at the end of the week.

SOCCER - $190
JULY 23 - 27 Boys & Girls
7-16 years old
The Whittier College soccer staff
will bring a new format to the 17th
year of soccer camp. The staff will emphasize fundamental
skills, technique, and tactical methods to become an excellent soccer player.
Camp will use methods focusing on
creativity, team play and rhythm.

Brazilian
Warm-up, touch drills, tactical instruction, and game evaluation for players
at the beginning to advanced levels.

To provide a
training experience that encourages campers to love the game of soccer, and
the basic skills to advance their level of play. |
VOLLEYBALL-$190
JULY 23 - 27 Boys & Girls 9-17 years old
The Volleyball Coach at Whittier College,
and her staff will direct the 17th annual volleyball camp. In addition to individual skill
development and analysis, emphasis will include individual pride in performance
mental training.

jump training will be featured.
