Athletic Facilities

DONALD E. GRAHAM ATHLETICS CENTER
Opened in 1979, with a thrilling double-overtime men’s basketball win over
Humboldt State University in the NCAA Division III West Regional, the Graham
Center serves as the hub for all 21 Poet athletic teams. Contained within are
coach’s offices, training rooms, Wardman Pavilion which houses “Dave Jacobs
Court”, 3 racquetball courts, the George Allen Fitness Center, team locker
rooms, two classrooms, Athletic Hall of Fame and the dance studio.

GEORGE ALLEN FITNESS CENTER
Dedicated in the fall of 1997 to the memory of legendary Poet and NFL football
coach, George Allen, this facility gives the campus community and it’s athletic
teams a state of the art strength and fitness complex which is second to none.
The Allen Center features multiple groupings of Cybex strength systems, free
weight stations and aerobics equipment, which are all utilized in the innovative
programs designed by a full-time, certified, strength and conditioning coach.

LILLIAN SLADE AQUATICS CENTER
The Slade Aquatics Center serves the Poet Men’s Water Polo team in the fall,
Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving teams in the winter and the Women’s Water
polo team in the spring. A popular recreational swimming venue during the many
sunny California days, the Aquatics Center is also the hub of activity with the
Swim Club, Sports Camps and Specialty Camps serving the Whittier area community
in the summer.

MEMORIAL STADIUM
This 7,000 seat lighted Stadium located in picturesque Worsham Canyon, has
undergone massive renovation during this past years thanks to the generous gift
by the Marvin Galbraith family to the College’s Capital Campaign. Light
standards were moved back to facilitate a wider and faster new all-weather Track
and Field facility, named after legendary Poet Track and Basketball Coach Aubrey
Bonham, which is considered to be one of the finest track facilities in the
west. Wallace “Chief” Newman Football Field was completely resurfaced and a new
irrigation system installed, to give the Poet football squad one of the finest
facilities in the Conference (SCIAC). The “Track Pavilion” building provides
satellite training room facilities, restrooms and equipment storage for all of
our “upper canyon” sports.

DONALD E. GRAHAM SOCCER/LACROSSE FIELD
Rising a tier above the Stadium, the Graham Field is home to the Men’s and
Women’s Soccer teams in the fall and the Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse teams in the
spring. This beautiful setting in the northern end of Worsham Canyon has been
enhanced with the addition of a high quality lighting system by Trustee Caroline
Ireland in memory of Virginia Hill.

MEMORIAL BASEBALL FIELD
Located between the Graham Center and Memorial Stadium in the mouth of Worsham
Canyon, this facility serves our Baseball team in the spring season and is used
for several other activities throughout the year.

RICHARD ETTINGER TENNIS COURTS
Six lighted courts, located adjacent to the Graham Center, are the home for our
Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams in the Spring and the base for our popular tennis
lesson offerings in the summer. These newly refinished and lighted courts honor
the memory of former Trustee, Richard Ettinger. Dick’s daughter, Jean, captained
the Poets 1987 Women’s Tennis team.

CHARLES AND MARIE PALMER SOFTBALL STADIUM
The site of our newest athletic facility, this enhancement project was completed
in time for the opening of the 2002 softball season and is located northeast of
Memorial Stadium, with a raised setting against the east side of picturesque
Worsham Canyon.
