Poets Softball Preview
Softball
is coming off a rebuilding year in 2006 in which they went 5-35 after
losing six seniors from the 2005 team that won the most games (15) for
Whittier in 13 years. Eight players return for 2007, six of them having
started games last year. “We will be much improved offensively this
season,” said fifth year head coach Erin Bridges-Thorpe. “We will have
a lot of experience in the dugout and more power in our lineup.” The
bulk of that experience comes from the team’s lone senior, first basemen
and catcher Brenna Winslow. The Poets also have experience on
the mound with two returning pitchers, junior Deena Arenas and
sophomore Victoria Ovieda. The Poets begin their season at home
with a double-header against Patten College on February 4. |
