Erin
Bridges-Thorpe enters her fourth year as the head softball
coach at Whittier College. In her three years with the Poet’s,
the softball program has consistently improved in every
statistical category and has tripled the number of single
season wins. During the 2005 season, Bridges-Thorpe led the
Poets to their most successful season in 13 years. |
Bridges-Thorpe
graduated from the University of California-San Diego, with a
Bachelor of Science in Management Science and successfully completed
four years of intercollegiate athletics as a member of the Triton
softball team. While attending UCSD, Bridges was a four-year All
West Region shortstop for the Tritons. As a senior, she was named
Athlete of the Year at UCSD and received NCAA All-American honors in
softball.
Bridges-Thorpe currently resides in Chino Hills with her husband,
Eric, and their daughter, Jordan. |

Melissa Brown
Graduate Teaching Fellow
Assistant
Softball Coach
Melissa Brown is entering her
first season as an assistant coach for the Whittier College
softball program. She is a 2006 graduate of Whittier
College with a degree in Kinesiology and Leisure Studies.
Brown played softball and soccer while at Whittier for two
years after transferring from Rio Hondo Community College.
She is completing her Master's Degree in Education. She
currently resides in Whittier. |

Mike McBride
Assistant
Softball Coach
Mike McBride helped found the
current women’s softball program along with Bob Giomi (Asst.
Dean of Students) and Warren Hanson (Professor of Biology) in
1979. Mike has served as assistant coach from 1979-1990,
1994-96, and 2003-to present. He served as head coach in
1991-92 and 2000-2002. McBride is also Professor and Chair of
the Political Science Department, specializing in human
rights, the United Nations, and Russian politics. He received
his BA, MA, and PhD from Purdue University and came to
Whittier in 1969. During the team’s first dozen years,
Whittier was honored to have three All-Americans and two
Academic All-Americans. McBride sees the current team as well
on its way to achieving similar honors over the next few
years.
