Whittier College Names New Women's Tennis Coach
Former professional tennis player, Steve Tallakson, has been named head
coach of the Whittier College women's tennis team. He has spent
the past two years as head coach of the boy's and girl's tennis teams at
Saint Margaret's Episcopalian High School in San Juan Capistrano, Calif.
Tallakson graduated from UC
Irvine in 1997 where the team went to the NCAA championships each of
the two years he played. Prior to that, he played at Ball State
University and also went to the NCAA championships both years there.
During his time at UC Irvine, the team was ranked in the top 25
nationally. He was ranked during his senior season in the top 30
in both singles and doubles. He was first team all-conference each
year at UC Irvine and Ball State University. During his senior season
at UC Irvine, Tallakson defeated the #1 player in the nation in
singles and also defeated the #1 doubles team in the nation.
After college
he competed professionally for 2 years obtaining a world ranking from
1996-2000 before becoming the men's assistant coach at UC Irvine Men's
Tennis team from 2000-2003.
During his junior career, Tallakson was ranked in the top 20
nationally and top 3 in Southern California.
Most recently, he has been a mortgage banker in Long Beach and the
High School Tennis coach at St. Margaret Episcopalian where he was
named league coach of the year twice.
