Robert E. Hamaguchi ‘69

JAPANTOWN TASK FORCE HIRES DIRECTOR

The Japantown Task Force, Inc. announced the appointment
of Robert E. Hamaguchi as its executive director effective
Sept. 1.
Hamaguchi is a retired senior vice president of Bank of
America, where he served 33 years in real estate banking and
corporate real estate.
He is a past president of the Bay Area Mortgage Association
and a former member of the board of directors of the
Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern
California (JCCCNC). He has served the community as a member
of the Kokoro Finance Committee of the Stakeholders Group.
Hamaguchi was born and raised in Los Angeles and is married
with three children. He and his family were participants in
the first JCCCNC’s Shinzen USA Nikkei Youth Goodwill Sports
Program.
Anne Petersen ‘97

DR. PETERSEN JOINS JCMG SURGICAL STAFF

Anne Petersen, M.D., has joined the staff at Jefferson
City Medical Group as the first female surgeon on staff.
She completed her surgical residency at the University of
Nebraska-Omaha Medical Center and received her medical
degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine.
During her residency, she served as the instructor of
advanced trauma life support. She also earned several
academic honors including Outstanding Resident Teacher of
the Year 2006, Outstanding Laparoscopic Resident of the Year
2005 and the Anselmo Alonzo Award in 2004.
Petersen specializes in laparoscopic minimally invasive
procedures with particular interest in surgical treatment of
the thyroid, parathyroid and colon cancer.
Roy Diaz ‘98

HIGHLANDER HEADS CSUSB DISASTER PREPAREDNESS

As the latest addition to Cal State San Bernardino's
University Police Department, Roy Diaz brings with him a
unique level of experience and knowledge to the newly
created job of coordinator for disaster preparedness.
Diaz, who is also the university's emergency operations
center coordinator, has served as a police officer for the
Los Angeles Police Department and was chosen to evaluate the
city of Los Angeles' and the LAPD's vulnerabilities for
man-made and natural disasters.
Diaz, who lives in Highland, joined the university's police
department in August. He plans to establish a network of
professionals with a wealth of information in disaster
preparedness for the university and the community, according
to Miller.
Arturo Porzecanski '71
Arturo Porzecanski became seriously ill during
Thanksgiving week, 2005, because of an exceedingly rare
blood disorder; remained hospitalized for three months,
during which time he was operated a dozen times; and has
needed physical therapy ever since then. Although he is now
partially disabled, he has been able to resume his post-Wall
Street career, teaching international economics and
international finance at the graduate level -- full-time at
American University, in Washington, DC, and part-time at
Columbia University, in New York.
