  OWEN NEWCOMER
I’ve been married for 36 years to Kristina, who retired several years ago from a career as a hair stylist and salon owner. Then, Kristina returned to college and earned a MA degree in Asian Studies with an emphasis on China from Cal State Long Beach.

I enjoy playing tennis, hiking, bicycling, swimming, and finding distant cousins to enlarge my genealogy file. You can often find me in Whittier restaurants eating and talking, actually, more talking than eating.

In addition to being married for a long time, I have been teaching political science for a long time--32 years at Rio Hondo College and 2 years at Whittier College. I am now retired and teaching part time.

Community involvement beckoned me long ago also. I served for 11 years as an elected member of the Whittier City School Board, and 6 years now as a Whittier City Councilor. In June of 2006, I came in second in my campaign for the 58th Assembly District.

As you probably can tell, politics is my vocation and my avocation.

Let’s explore our political world together.
