“21st Century Neoliberalism: Plan Puebla Panamá in Mexico”
Corporate globalization is a high source of conflict for
southern Mexico. As a consequence of Mexico’s neoliberal
policies, 1999 saw the introduction of Plan Puebla Panama
(PPP). Even though the Fox administration has sold PPP as
promising, NAFTA has indicated what can be expected of yet
another neoliberal model. Mexico has ignored the possible
consequences of further impoverishment and displacement of
people causing a powerful opposition in an already
high-conflict area.
