NOVEMBER 06-08, 2003

The upcoming conference for the Pacific Coast Council on Latin American Studies will bring together scholars, educators, graduate, undergraduate, and high school students, and community members interested in Latin American Studies. We are seeking seeking paper and panel proposals that address this year’s theme, The Contexts and Consequences of Neoliberalism. Also invited are proposals for workshops and roundtable discussions as well as participation in those proposed in the general announcement. The extended deadline for all proposals is September 15, 2003. Late proposals will be considered on a limited, space available basis. To submit a paper or panel proposal, please fill out this form (PDF | Word)

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Dr. Ricardo Gómez (California State University, Los Angeles)
Globalized Neoliberalism: Refutation and Debacle
(Saturday, November 8, during the luncheon at the Faculty Center)

Dr. Ricardo Gómez’s keynote speech, “Globalized Neoliberalism: Refutation and debacle”

Other Conference Activities

Nuestra América, a photography exhibit by Dr. Carlos Ugalde,
November 6-8 at the Shannon Center for the Performing Arts

A musical performance by QUETZAL on Thursday, November 6
at 7:30 pm at the Shannon Center for the Performing Arts
(FREE for pre-registered participants!)

GRUPO TROTEATEATRO performs HABÍA UNA VEZ (in Spanish)
on Friday, November 7 at 7:30 pm at the Shannon Center.
HABIA UNA VEZ is a collective creation that explores memory and its future. Children and the “third world” have a lot in common in a world of paternalistic abuses. It’s a fun and cruel show, almost an Ubuesque Farse, in which fairies and witches cross paths and fairy tales mix and reach our present time.
(FREE for pre-registered participants!)
