YUAN KAI (YUAN K'AI) (1310-?)
Yuan Kai was born and lived in the city of
Songjiang, near what is today's city of
Shanghai. When he was summoned to serve in the
Ming government, he pretended to be insane, and
so avoided having to serve. He was one of the
most important followers of the poetic
principles and style of Yang Weizhen
(1296-1370), which imitated Tang poetry and the
Music Bureau poetry of the Han and Wei
dynasties.

Three thousand miles of waterways.
But this letter is just fifteen lines
saying nothing
but "Come home soon."
