Whittier is home to the
Upsilon Sigma branch of Sigma Tau Delta, the international
English honorary society. Students who have completed two
upper division English courses and who have a B average
overall, with a B+ average in English, are eligible for
membership. Eligible students are tapped in English classes
at the beginning of each semester.
In addition to activities for its own membership, including
an annual Putrid Poetry Reading, Sigma Tau Delta also
organizes occasional events for the department or the
student body as a whole. It also publishes
The Literary
Review each year. This publication features essays
(including course papers from all fields), poetry, fiction,
and art work by students at Whittier College. Submissions
are usually solicited at the beginning of the spring
semester; you do not need to be a member, or a student in an
English class, in order to publish in The Literary Review.
The president of Sigma Tau Delta is Charlene Beal, and the
secretary is Laura Nestler. New members are Gabriella
Simeonovna, Kaylee Hudgins, and Amber Hollingsworth. |
