He Wasn’t That Great Anyway

The girls were pretty, petite, and some my friends—
but he didn’t care and either did they.

He always came to me,
swearing it wasn’t true;

Even now, passing the perfume counter I can smell his
stupid, cheap cologne.

I Know This Shouldn’t Make Me Happy

I remember driving to the concert with my mom
stuck in traffic behind you
with the new girl, in the new car.

If I had put a gun to your head
you wouldn’t have gone.
I guess you must really like her.

She becomes pregnant
and then I know you must really love her
because having careless sex is not like you.

Funny, how two years later
she keys the car, calls me, and is crying
about how she can’t compete with me.

The Easiest Way to Make Him Call in Sick

Babe, it’s raining just the way we
like.

Don’t go. Wouldn’t you
rather stay in bed with me
than go to work with people
you don’t even like?

If you leave, you’re going to hit
traffic then wish you
hadn’t left.

Babe, it’s raining just the way we
like…and I’m naked.

He’s Not Very Attractive But His Parents Own A
Nightclub So All The Girls Like Him

I will not forget kissing
your thin, chapped lips,

Your skin ,
with pores enlarged
so that the stubs of your hair scratch my face,

Or your eyes,
small, squinty, and wandering.
