TANG YAPING (1962-)
Tang Yaping was born in Sichuan and graduated
from Sichuan University as a philosophy major in
1983. She has worked as an editor at the Guizhou
television station in the Southwest of China.
She is part of a younger generation of Chinese
woman poets who have reacted to the new freedom
of expression after he death of Mao Zedong in
1976 caused a loosening up of the repression of
sexuality and romance during the Cultural
Revolution (during which Mao decreed that
sexuality and romance were to be eliminated from
the media and redirected towards revolution).
Dealing with sex, romance, orgasm, masturbation,
and gender roles, she is an intense and
thoroughly contemporary poet.
