Lana Nino is a tenured Associate Professor,
having taught at Whittier for the past nine years, after having
also taught at Whittier as a visiting instructor for two years
from 1990 to 1992. Lana is currently a doctoral candidate at the
University of California, Riverside. Her Ph.D. in Higher
Education, focusing on business education, is anticipated in
June of 2012. Besides having earned a M.S. in Business
Administration from California State Polytechnic University,
Pomona in 1991, Lana has certifications as a Certified Public
Accountant (CPA) and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
and completed the Advanced Executive Program at the Kellogg
Graduate School at Northwestern University in July 2000.
Having spent six years in public accounting, she has also held
chief financial officer positions at two technology companies
and accounting management positions at two large retailers. At
Whittier Lana teaches most of the college’s accounting courses
focusing on financial and managerial accounting. Lana also
taught Freshman Writing Seminar once, several different
accounting electives over the years toward the accounting
concentration, a course in Globalization and Business Ethics,
and a one-credit course (Leadership Practicum) each semester
which coordinates the leadership of student business groups
(Business Leadership Group, Students in Free Enterprise, and
Rotaract).
Service to the college included serving on the Educational
Policies Committee for two years, and the Whittier Scholars
Council for three years. She has participated in long-term
strategic planning committees formed by the President and the
Board of Directors for several terms. She currently serves on
Faculty Executive Committee as Vice Chair of Faculty for
academic year 2011-2012.
Over the past nine years Lana has participated in seven
conferences including two international presentations in Ireland
and Slovakia. She recently had two publications addressing
issues in business education in the American Journal of Business
Education and in The Business Review, Cambridge. One of her
publications in 2007 addressed rate of adoption of the
international accounting standards. She has also co-authored one
paper on business outsourcing with her colleagues in the
department, in 2004.
She also has served on the board of directors of the
Intercommunity Counseling Center in Whittier and Real-Time
Ordering in Fullerton, CA.
