Whittier

AREA
COORDINATOR/ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF RESIDENTIAL LIFE
The Area Coordinator/Assistant Director of Residential Life works in a position
that combines residence hall administration with departmental administration.
This is a 12-month, full-time, live-in, professional position involving
participation in an on-call duty rotation.
The responsibilities include overseeing living/learning community and theme
house programs. He/she will be working closely with faculty to implement new and
ongoing living/learning and theme communities including the Community. The
“First-Year” connections and the honors community program. The candidate will
Co-teach a one-unit first-year transition seminar with a faculty member. They
will also be reviewing residential life policies and procedures and department
budgets. The candidate will also provide leadership in the development of
educational programming within the residence halls. The candidate will also be
acting on behalf of the Director of Residential Life in her absence.
Minimum qualifications are a Master’s degree or equivalent combination of
experience and education in Higher Education Administration, College Student
Personnel or three years of residence hall experience. The candidate will have a
commitment to the ideals of liberal arts education and experience in
multicultural programming required. Remuneration includes one-bedroom furnished
apartment, meal plan and an excellent benefits package.

ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE
DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS
The Assistant/Associate Director is
responsible for assisting with the development and execution of a broad-based
communications strategy that raises positive institutional visibility nationally
and regionally. The successful candidate will ensure clear and consistent
delivery of key messaging and brand awareness among all constituency groups
(internal and external); identify and develop opportunities through multiple
media to support and enhance the programs and mission of Whittier College in
general and the Office of Advancement in particular. The successful candidate
will also serve as one of the College's primary communications writers. He/she
will be responsible for identifying and developing story concepts, interviewing
subjects, writing articles for multiple media, including print publications and
the web. The candidate will also serve as one of the College’s primary
information officers, responding to a variety of public and media inquiries.
He/she will develop and maintain a media relations strategy for the College
locally and regionally, prepare and distribute news releases.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelors degree in Communications or related
field and a minimum 3+ years of related professional experience. The knowledge
and skills required are superb writing and communication skills, demonstrated
initiative, strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work
independently as well as in a team; experience in a higher education environment
is required. Strong knowledge of local, national, and international media, as
well as standard journalistic practices; demonstrated, successful news
placement. Established relationships with educational journalists preferred. The
candidate will have the ability to keep deadlines and manage the editorial
development of various publications, including the web. The successful candidate
must have an understanding of writing and editing material for website through
content management system.

CAMPUS SAFETY OFFICER
The successful candidate must be able to interact effectively with students,
faculty and staff. Prefer Reserve or Basic Academy experience. The position

DIRECTOR OF DISABILITY SERVICES
The Director of Disability Services reports to the Dean of Students, the
Director is responsible for providing leadership and oversight to the office of
Disability Services which provides counseling, support, and assistance to
students with physical, learning and psychological disabilities. Responsible for
ensuring compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans
with Disabilities Act, the successful director provides support designed to
ensure the success of students with disabilities. The Director of Disability
Services serves as a resource person and liaison on issues related to disability
awareness, accommodations, and campus wide accessibility.
The successful candidate will have experience in creating new programs,
developing cooperative networks with faculty and Student Life directors to
enhance learning support, identifying and implementing new delivery strategies
and assessing program effectiveness. We will consider candidates from various
educational backgrounds including special education and counseling; however,
minimum qualification will include a Master’s degree in a relevant field.
Candidates with at least four years of experience with disability services at
the college level are preferred. Applicants should have experience working with
and a commitment to developing a diverse community of learners; ability to work
collaboratively with faculty and staff; excellent interpersonal, written and
oral communication and counseling skills, strong computer skills; and a
commitment to high professional standards are necessary.

EQUIPMENT MANAGER
The Equipment Manager is responsible for managing all intercollegiate equipment,
handles orders and inventory on all equipment for 21 teams. The candidate will
be supervising full time, part time and student staff in support of the customer
service and equipment operation on a daily basis. A consistent interface with
coaches and staff will be one of the keys for success in this position.
A successful candidate will have the following computer program experience
Microsoft Word, Excel and the proven ability to learn the Whittier College
billing system. He/she must be able to multitask and work in a team environment.

USER SUPPORT MANAGER
The Business User Support Services Manager is responsible for the development
and implementation of the finance, business, payroll, human resources, and other
administration and finance offices database systems. Responsibilities include
preparing management reports, systems documentation, records maintenance, use
and support of computer-based information systems, and assistance with
reconciliation and transfer of funds to appropriate accounts. The Manager works
closely with the division staff to deal with a wide variety of functions
relating to the development, implementation, maintenance, documentation, use,
and support of computer-based information systems.
The
candidate must possess exceptional organizational skills, keen attention to
detail, sound judgment, good communication skills, and personal initiative.
Comprehensive understanding of the overall responsibilities of Finance and
Administration is essential. Must be proficient in SQL, MS Access, MS Excel, MS
Word and other software packages and must have advanced computer analysis
skills, including the ability to create documents, spreadsheets, timelines, and
reports. The candidate must have prior database experience, with a strong
preference for SCT Banner experience. Organization, prioritization, judgment,
ability to handle multiple responsibilities at once, and problem-solving skills
are essential. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required.
