The Final Project

Brain storm possible project topics and bring a typed list of three topics that would most interest you as final projects. This is due Nov. 11, 2003.

Project proposals are due Nov. 18, 2003.

Project updates and project presentations begin on Nov. 25, 2003.

Your project should have a policy dimension and should draw on your command of quantitative demographic analysis--finding and employing the most credible sources of relevant demographic data and using appropriate quantitative techniques for their analysis. This analysis might include life tables, stable or stationary population models, representations of population structure, or the kinds of cross-tabular analyses facilitated by William Frey's book on "Investigating Change in American Society", our companion text.

The Nov. 11th lists will be shared with the class and used in finding possible project partners who share similar interests.

Substantive questions examined may focus on one or more of the countries used by course members in earlier experiences, on population characteristics and life chances in the U.S., or on technical issues of demographic analysis. Policy implications should be made explicit by showing the ways your analysis might be taken into consideration in the decisions or policies of a government, business, or other organizations.

Projects may be done by individuals or by teams of up to three people drawn from course members sharing relevant interests. We encourage collaborative work.
